Life, Music and Bass

Born on September 20th, 1988. A bass player based on Jakarta, Indonesia. Also an undergraduate majoring in psychology.

  • Plays: 0

One of the things that I used when I’m composing, using the looper to create simple line and phrases.

Yet it’s only a phrase, so do mind the missed tempo and all of that stuff. I just want to share what I like to do at home.

  • What Project?

I decided that recently I just quit (transparently) from a project that I’ve been worked for about a year I think. The reason is that I can’t seem to get a hold on the other players on this project. It’s so hard to communicate with them in terms of project and commitment.

So many of them take it very simple. It’s easier to said that you are serious about doing music for your life, yet the action apparently speaks quieter. Nobody is trying to give all their best on the project. Speaking of which, an example of the rehearsal session clarifies all of that. Every single materials (original) was made and arrange by me, yet I had tried to put my heads off for once trying to stimulate them to think, be creative, and arrange, but it didn’t worked out. They aren’t doing nothing, not even trying to arrange or just by giving a chord sequence to help the music.

The other thing about the rehearsal session is this, lack of effort. Sometimes I tried to give a different point of view just to get us going. That is by playing other musicians tune. Yet nobody is practicing it at home and when it comes the time to get in the studio, we don’t have anything to play. In this kind of situation I always try to give a chord sequence, at the same time arrange it. Believe it or not, it goes back like the situation on the second paragraph. They just standing playing ridiculous stuff and waiting for me to give a simple “tutor” about the music. It’s killing me, and hits me very hard because the fact that I know they had been playing music many many years back from me. They played music before I even knew what music was.

Certainly I had no idea what I’m going to do about it. It’s a dead end for me because I can’t get a gig out of them yet their asking for it. Most people that I loved and understand the situation and knows about my musical knowledge, ability, and experience told me to be patience, maybe I just haven’t found the right people to work with. They actually give me a good point if I’m going to put my life to music as a session player where I’ll be working with lots of different musician and how I’m going to keep my mood and adapt to the situation.

  • Managing a Band(s)?

It’s so hard that I found myself in this situation. One of situation when I had so much project to do yet so little time to manage and to many people to manage. I’m very blessed that I was given this opportunity, but sometimes I had this kind of moment where I fell like bombed. So much to think about, like, where’s this project going to be, where’s that project will end up? What can I do to get this project and that project going? All that kind of stuff. I feel like a session player in a project doing manager stuff. I’ve been thinking about getting a manager to run and get everything in order, but still can’t figure it out who. I just don’t trust people easily.

Sometimes it’s just very frustrating when you start to give a vision to other players but they aren’t responding well. Not that they don’t agree with it, but lots of doubts on what’s going to happen if it doesn’t work makes me feel like, okay I had to find others who are willing to go beyond this box of stuckness. I’m not aiming for the fame though, but music industry had so much to offer and so much experience to learn. The process that I’ve been going trough with the recordings, the label, the gigs, just kind of make me want to fulfill what most musicians dream of. But then again, I can’t run all of them by myself and I’m definitely still learning how to manage it.

  • Jamming with The Looper

There is so much for me to learn at this point. Sometimes it’s very hard for me to come up with an idea of a melody for a song or a solo part in a song. So, I thought the only way that I can improve this is by jamming with few or some chord changes. I was start looking for a looper and found myself with this Digitech Jamman Solo Loop pedals which for me it’s just being a fantastic partner. Basically the video that I just posted before were some of the videos on how I can manipulate and put my knowledge on playing the bass into the next level from I am right now. It does helps a lot when you had a looper on your pedal’s list. The only reason is that you can’t always have the time to jam with your friend and this pedal was just an awesome partner to jam with. Everything starts from a four chord changes, two chords changes, four bars, two bars, practicing your tempo accuracy. So, be sure to try one!
